Yes, you read that headline right, TAKE A QB in the first round of your NFL Fantasy football draft.
All the experts tell you, take that skill position player first whether it be Justin Jefferson, Christian McCaffrey of this year’s toast of the town Bijan Robinson. Full disclosure I am very high on Robinson, but your draft position must be as well to get any of these guys. If you find yourself in the 7,8,9 spot of your re-draft the smartest thing to do is to take a QB. There are a few different reasons that taking a Quarter Back early is starting to make more and more sense. At 1 point in time, you could wait on them because the difference wasn’t that wide between QB 1 and QB 12 but know you really can’t win a matchup if you have Derek Carr and you opponent has Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. So, lets dive deeper into why taking a QB in the middle of the first round makes sense. First, you won’t have to play the streaming game in the most important position in football, sure that bell cow running back will touch the ball 20-25 times and can hit a home run, but a top end dual threat QB will still throw the ball more than that and even if he throws it to the running back you are getting those free points. Patrick Mahomes didn’t lead the NFL in yards per attempt this year, he was 3rd averaging 8.1 yards per attempt, that means he is almost getting a first down every time he drops back which last time, I checked is how you stay on the field in football. There for getting more first downs. In the range that we are looking at players going there are Jonathan Taylor, Stephon Diggs and Tyreek Hill those kind of guys which are all great but if you take Mahomes there is a good chance that you will freak out the players behind you and start a run on QBs which means you are pushing those guys down the board and ultimately giving yourself a chance to get them in the second round anyway. If you want to win the championship you MUST MUST have your first-round pick on the field for all 17 games otherwise you are just at a disadvantage. Last time I checked Diggs, Taylor and Hill have all had injuries in the past and are getting older there for increasing their chances of missing time. Mahomes on the other hand, even if he gets injured will still play. If you are thinking about taking a QB in the first round I would only recommend Mahomes, Allen and a paid Lamar. (it’s funny how a paid QB is a healthy QB). I would be argued as well that Hurts can be in this group. Take that elite QB Mahomes had over 400 fantasy points last season, that high end WR known as Tyreek Hill only 228. I’ll take the 400 any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The NHL season is winding down and yes there is optimism for the Ottawa Senators, but that should be met with caution at the same time for several reasons.
Ottawa does have some fine young talent for sure, all I heard all year is Batherson and Norris look like they can be real players, and while that may be true they won’t have the luxury of catching teams by surprise next season as there is tape in on the young duo. For the most part this team going forward will go as Tkchuck goes and that is a little scary. Brady is a terrific player however, there are players around the league with much more talent, even though they won’t out work Tkchuck. Goaltending is another reason, and it can be said about any team in the league. Matt Murry was brought over to be the starting goalie, but was never able to stay healthy. They do have Anton Forsberg at times stepping up in his place and has always shown to be a capable backup, but at this stage of his career that is all he is. No matter who they are up against though the sens can not continue to employ the look out defense, giving up on average 33 shot attempts per 60 minutes means that they spend a lot of time in their own zone which, let's face it, is a lot more tiring than playing offense. The mystery player that the team so desperately wants to start showing off his skills is Connor Docker-Bedard who spent a handful of minutes in the NHL this year after graduating from the NCAA and will hopefully help the sens improve their team. We will see how this goes in a return to a normal season where they don’t have to play 3 of the best players in the league a total of 20 times. Players from a variety of teams such as Mcdavid, Drisital, and Matthews overshadowed and outplayed the sens all season. Bringing back a balanced schedule will certainly help them improve their game going forward. This team most likely is going to be in the middle of nowhere in the standings next year, good enough to maybe compete for a wild card, but not bad enough to tank for a guy like Shane Wright. |
